Make Friends are a new four piece from Bristol. Dispensing progressive indie-pop, laced with infectious grooves and with echoes of Bombay Bicycle Club and Foals, their debut single was recorded at Geoff Barrow’s Invada Studios in Bristol with acclaimed Everything Everything keys player and producer Pete Sené.
We sent Make Friends over some questions to tackle about this debut single and their plans for 2019…
Who are the members of the band and how did you meet?
Thomas Andrew – vocals + bass
Max Lewin – drums
Connor Crabb – guitar
David Thomas – guitar
How did you come up with the name Make Friends?
We were nameless for a few months, before some drunken ingenuity from Max lead us to Make Friends, named after an old track of ours.
What artists have influenced your sound?
Foals, Bombay Bicycle Club, Everything Everything, The Cure, Palace, The Police, Kllo
What was the inspiration behind ‘Drop Naked’?
The lyrics center around themes of being emotionally unfaithful – maybe there’s someone who catches your eye and you attempt to pursue something even when you know it’s wrong and unfair. We wanted the music to sound uplifting in strong contrast to the darker subject matter.
What are your aims and hopes for 2019?
We hope to release both EPs 1 + 2, as well as playing in as many towns, cities, fields and basements as possible.
What were your favourite albums of 2018?
Jungle – For Ever
Maribou State – Kingdoms in Colour
Ben Howard – Noonday Dream
Idles – Idles – Joy as an Act of Resistance
Anderson .Paak – Oxnard
Yves Tumor – Safe In The Hands Of Love
Let’s Eat Grandma – I’m All Ears
