We’ve got a fantastic Track of the Day for you. The zzips release their new EP ‘Expect the Worst‘ on the 31st March 2014, via S16 Music, and we’ve chosen the title track as the recipient of todays award.

In a nutshell it’s a blues-indie mishmash with such moreish instrumentation it feels like the musical equivalent of honey. There are obvious comparisons to Beck and early Gomez but the band seem to have put their own marker on the genre, producing quite stunning results. The five track E.P covers issues from Internet Dating with ‘Expect The Worst’ to the inevitable visit to Heaven’s Gate from the blues laden lament of ‘Ruination.com’

Frontman James Butler draws inspiration from the worlds entropy that is a toss of the coin whilst his writing partner Graham Cupples despairs at this new modern world where ‘fantasy is the new reality’. The mixture of the writing partnership brings thought provoking lyrics and a refreshing twist to the often mundane lyrics of many modern singles.

The E.P. ‘Expect The Worst‘ is released on 31st March 2014 with the album ’20 Years Late’ to follow in May/June. The EP track-listing is as follows…

01 Expect The Worst

02 You Just Don’t Need Them

03 Scratch-cards & Junkies

04 Too Little Too Late

05 Ruination.com
