London 3-piece MYSTYRYS are somewhat of a late addition to the Field Day proceedings. Pulled into the festival foray at the last minute the band infuse delectable mix of fuzzy guitars and sumptuous melodies to produce a gorgeously addictive shoe-gaze sound.
A recent double a-side single (Lemonade/Palisades) saw the band return after a brief hiatus and was recorded as part of their upcoming debut album by Mark Jasper (Witching Waves) at Sound Savers London (Bitches / Mickey Gloss / Sauna Youth / Trashkit / Dignan Porch).
We spoke to the band about Field Day and how 2016 has panned out so far…
How does it feel to be playing at this year’s Field day festival?
Really cool, we were late additions so it’s been a bit of a surprise but we’re super excited
We’re crawling steadily to the mid-point of 2016. How’s it been so far? Any highlights?
We’ve been discovering loads of older tracks, bands and albums this year that have been really influential on the new stuff we’re doing. Stuff like Palm, Naomi Punk and The Sound have been some of big talking points music wise. Loads of new stuff too, the new Autolux record, King Gizzard, stuff like that have been great additions to 2016
Describe yourself in 1 word
If you weren’t a musician, what you be?
Fit and healthy
What’s your essential festival accessory? (Sun cream, a well-worn festival hat, wellies etc)
A hip flask
If you could have your dream festival (dead or alive), who would be the three headliners and why?
Devo, The Murder City Devils and Life Without Buildings as they are some of my favourite bands that I never got to see live.
What can we expect from your set at Field Day?
We’re releasing our album prior to the festival on our own label so tracks from that, plus a super special cover we’ve been playing, some nerves, and an early wake up call
If you could recommend 3 other acts to check out at this year’s festival, who would they be?
Ata Kak , Goat, Sleaford Mods
If you could be playing anywhere in the world in 12 months’ time, where would it be?
Somewhere in a field in Hampshire, alright
Anything else you’d like to tell us before we set you free to entertain the sun-seekers and muso’s of London (new album, new tour etc) ?
Our debut album is out on Friday 10th June on Psychic Healing Network (but you can stream it now! https://soundcloud.com/mystyrys/sets/mystyrys)
