With Brighton’s Great Escape Festival now a matter of weeks away GIGsoup have selected 15 artists we feel you simply shouldn’t miss.
Today we feature Brighton based band Atlas Wynd. Originally from the North East of England the duo have relocated the the sunnier climate of East Sussex to tout their wares. To describe the bands sound using the spoken word is almost impossible … however, place ‘loud’, ‘wall of sound’, ‘full force drums’ in any order and you’ll start getting an idea of what the duo will be offering at the festival.
We spoke to Peter and Harry about The Great Escape and their ‘must have’ beach accessories…
How does it feel to be playing at The Great Escape 2016?
It feels good! It’s a pleasure to be part of The Great Escape for the first time, it’s a festival that we’ve hoping to be a part of for a couple of years so it’s nice to finally get the chance to.
We’ve been fairly quiet so far this year in terms of shows but we took some time to record a couple of songs and to get ourselves all ready to start gigging again. Peter has also been taking time to just listen to loads of different types of music, trying and get some inspiration going.
Describe yourself in 1 word
Peter – Quiet
Harry – Gangly
What’s your essential go-to beach accessory? (Spade, towel, beers, Game Boy Colour etc)
Peter – sledgehammer for the i360
Harry – suncream, I’m that guy who wears a shirt in the pool on holiday.
“The Great Escape” is also the name of the bonafide Gwen Stefani classic, aside from that what is your Gwen Stefani tune of choice
Rich Girl definitely
If you weren’t a musician, what would you be?
Peter- being a cleaner probably
Harry – probably studying politics at uni
If you could have your dream festival (dead or alive), who would be the three headliners and why?
Ty Segall, Funkadelic, Thee Oh sees – Ty Seagall and Thee Oh Sees are two of our favourite garage rocks bands and put on a sick show. Funkadelic because seeing them live would be insane.
What can we expect from your set at The Great Escape?
From our set you can expect LOUD NOISES and fuzz
If you could recommend 3 other acts to check out at this year’s festival, who would they be?
Elf Kid, Micheal Kiwanuka, Tigercub
If you could be playing anywhere in the world in 12 months time, where would it be?
In 12 months time we would ideally be playing somewhere in San Fransisco, that’d be cool, garage rock Mecca haha.
