Mercedes from Canada’s Courage My Love thinks that Italian alternative rock quintet Halflives are terrific live, even if they don’t think they’re worth a watch themselves. However, Halflives think Courage My Love are the ones to watch instead. We spoke to this international mutual appreciation society about their upcoming appearance at Camden Rocks and about strange Canadian fast food dishes.
When did your relationship with Camden start?
(CML) Being from Canada, our relationship with Camden is just now beginning.
(HL) We have known about the existence of Camden Rocks Festival for years. Basically since when we started being a touring band and being interested in what was happening outside our small home country. (Italy, which is 116,300 sq miles, compared to Uk at 80,820 sq miles – GIGsoup)

Have you played in Camden before?
(HL) Nope, never. It’s our first time and it’s absolutely a great achievement for us both as a band and on personal level. We toured the UK three times and played London a couple times but never played in Camden.
(CML) This would be the first time! We’ve been to the U.K. before, but the closest we got to Camden was Boston Music Room in Kentish Town.
What was your reaction when you knew you would be playing there this year?
(CML) Obviously SUPER excited! Not only to play, but also to eat curry fries again. Canada only has poutine. (Poutine is a Canadian dish, originating in the province of Québec, made with French fries and cheese curds topped with a light brown gravy – GIGsoup)
(HL) None, we have no emotions, we are half alive. Just kidding of course, we’re super hyped and it’s gonna be our first festival experience so it’s very thrilling!
From bands announced so far who are you looking forward to seeing?
(CML) We’re always excited to see our friends in Halflives tear it up on stage.
(HL) Our friends Courage My Love, even if we will have the chance to watch their show every night since we are on tour with them it’s always a pleasure to see them live. Also from the second announcement , we’re curious to see the shows of Tigress and Napoleon.
Have you been to Camden Market, what did you buy?
(HL) Yes, years ago and I bought a tank top (Linda). Hopefully we’ll have time to hang around more on June 3rd!
Why should I as a gig goer make an effort to see you guys at Camden this year?
(CML) Come see our show if you like dancing, occasionally head banging, making friends, and listening to passionate music. Also because we came all the way from Canada *wink wink*
(HL) Don’t, we’re terrible! 😀
Don’t believe they’re terrible, judge for yourselves at Camden Rocks on 3rd June 2017 ticket available HERE
