At the tender age of 19, Be Charlotte’s prowess is head-turningly impressive. Ahead of her anticipated journey to Live at Leeds 2017, we caught up with the singer-songwriter to talk Kendrick Lamar, Rag ‘n’ Bone Man and trainers.

Do you have any fond memories of Leeds?

I’ve actually never been. This will be our debut in the city and hopefully the first of many gigs there

Who on this years bill excites you?

I saw a little bit of Rag and Bone Man at SXSW, so it’ll be great to see a full live performance. I had the pleasure of supporting Frightened Rabbit before too so it’ll be great to see them play again. Some of the boys in my team are buzzing for Kojey Radical.

Leeds legends – Kaiser Chiefs or Alt-J?

Alt-j

Your number one festival tip is?

Don’t wear your brand new trainers….

What would be your dream trio of festival headliners?

That’s easy! Kendrick Lamar, Lianne LaHavas and Milky Chance.

How is it different for you to play at a festival, as opposed to a standalone tour/gig?

Festivals always feel so positive. It’s nice to be surrounded by so many brilliant musicians who are all on the road as well. The festival gives you an opportunity to play to new audiences and build on your successes there. It’s the very start of my career so I’m enjoying being able to visit new places for the first time.

What can we expect from your set at LAL?

There will be a strong trainer game. My performance is always 100%. My songs are real and they are little bits of my personality and my story. I don’t have any interest in writing or performing watered down pop songs, so people coming to see us can expect an authentic performance.
