Halifax three-piece The Orielles release their debut album on 16th February 2018, putting some live favourites on vinyl as well as introducing new material. The group will then go on a short tour of mainland Europe and the UK.
The album is called ‘Silver Dollar Moment’ and will be released via Heavenly Recordings.
Opening track ‘Mango’ is a slice of buzzing psych garage pop that they’ve been playing regularly at gigs, while closer ‘Blue Suitcase (Disco Wrist)’ was written in the studio while they recorded the album with producer Marta Salogni at Eve Studio in Stockport.
Recent singles ‘Let Your Dog Tooth Grow’ and ‘I Only Bought It For The Bottle’ are on the 45-minute long record, but it doesn’t have space for their incredible eight-minute odyssey, ‘Sugar Tastes Like Salt’.
The Orielles’ songs are inspired by cinema and literature. “So many pop songs are about relationships or growing up or whatever,” they say. “We wanted to write a few songs that make people think, ‘What the hell is that about?’.”
Guitarist Henry Carlyle Wade explains the album’s title: ‘Silver Dollar Moment’ is the band’s phrase for anything that’s unexpectedly brilliant. “We played in Toronto, at this bar called the Silver Dollar Room. We’d been in Canada for 36 hours, no sleep, we’d already played at 10, then we played a show at the Silver Dollar at 2am and it was one of the best shows we’ve played. So a ‘silver dollar moment’ became anything that’s good, but unexpectedly.” But the band say there’s nothing unexpected about their album’s brilliance.
