Apple CEO Tim Cook has revealed that Apple Music now has 6.5 million paid subscribers.

Apple Music was launched in June of this year, offering subscribers an initial free three month trial. With 6.5 million users choosing to keep using the service, there are also 8.5 million still using the free trial, bringing their number of overall users to around 15 million.

Cook is quoted as saying at the WSJD Liver Conference in California, “I think it’s fabulous, and to have over 15 million on there, and 6.5 million in the paid category, I’m really happy about it. And I think the runway here is really good“.

However, they still have quite some catching up to do with their main rivals Spotify, who now boast a figure of 20 million paid subscribers, making them the most popular streaming platform among music fans.
