Lead singer and guitarist of the rock band Billy Corgan posted a photo of himself, and founding members James Iha (guitarsist) and Jimmy Chamberlin (Drummer) in the recording studio to his official Instagram account today, with the words:

“Not sure what cross-eyed spy took this photo, but we had a visitor to the studio the other day. So many memories when you put the three of us together.”

It’s not the first time in the eighteen years since the Pumpkins initial split that the idea of the original line-up’s reunion has been touted, with Chamberlin saying in a  WGN radio interview that the band were “talking about playing together next year [2018]”.

Frontman Corgan and drummer Chamberlin have collaborated intermittently throughout the 2000’s, with the drummer’s eventual return as a touring band member in 2016 and in March of the same year guitarist Iha appeared on stage with the band for dates in both L.A. and Chicago after a sixteen year absence.

After reconciliation with bassist D’Arcy Wretzcy – also in 2016 – Corgan’s post is perhaps an indication that some form of reunion of the original Smashing Pumpkins could still be on the cards.
