The rumors are true: boygenius, the band of Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus will release their self-titled EP debut on November 9 on Matador Records.
These three young songwriters have carved their path in producing the best of exciting independent rock. All three have released critically acclaimed albums in the past year (Turn Out The Lights, Stranger In The Alps, and Historian, respectively).
To celebrate today’s announcement, boygenius has released a captivating triumvirate of new songs titled ‘Stay Down’, ‘Me & My Dog’, and ‘Bite The Hand’, which can be heard HERE.
“When we met, Lucy and Phoebe and I were in similar places in our lives and our musical endeavors, but also had similar attitudes toward music that engendered an immediate affinity,” Baker explains. “Lucy and Phoebe are incredibly gifted performers, and I am a fan of their art outside of being their friends, but they are also both very wise, discerning and kind people whom I look up to in character as much as in talent.”
“A long time ago, before I even met Phoebe, Julien mentioned that she had a pipe dream of starting a band with both of us,” says Dacus. “Then we booked this tour and decided the time was right.”
“It seemed obvious to record a 7-inch for tour, although many adult men will try to take credit for the idea,” adds Bridgers. “When we got together, we had way more songs than we expected and worked so well together, that we decided to make a full EP.”
What’s more, a North American tour is on the way. Baker and Bridgers will hit the road in North America this fall for a co-headline tour, with Dacus opening. Each artist will play her own individual set of tunes, but fans just might be able to hear some boygenius songs along the way – though that’s a rumor we can’t yet confirm.
The tour kicks off at Nashville’s famed Ryman Auditorium on November 4, and hits major markets in the Northeast, Midwest, and West Coast, culminating at The Wiltern in LA on November 30. The full list of tour dates, as well as each individual artist’s itinerary, can be found below.
