Django Django, Ken Booth and Amadou & Mariam top the bill in the first announcement for this year’s World of Music, Arts and Dance festival, held annually in Charlton Park, Wiltshire.
Bristish four-piece art rockers Django Django join the lineup after releasing their latest album ‘Marble Skies’ in January. They are joined at the top of the bill for the four day festival, running from 26th-29th July 2018, by long-standing Malian afro-blues duo Amadou & Mariam.
Amongst those kicking off the festival on the Thursday night will be the Jamaican reggae favourite Ken Boothe, known for his 70’s hit ‘Everything I Own’. He will be joined by celebrated nu-jazz collective from Berlin, Jazzanova Live featuring Paul Randolph, whose impeccable Latin-tinged sound has led to collaborations with Gilles Peterson and remix commissions for the likes of Fat Freddy’s Drop.
West African fusion outfit Tal National from Niger will also bring their mix of afrobeat, desert blues and hiphop to the mix.
Other additions include Irish accordion master Sharon Shannon, experimental French artist Camille, and Cuban singer, flautist and percussionist La Dame Blanche among many others.
WOMAD have also released a video with festival founder Peter Gabriel talking about the festival and introducing his top tips for this year.
More artists for WOMAD 2018 are due to be announced soon.
