The Temperance Movement have announced the departure of guitarist and founder member Luke Potashnick.

Despite years on the road with both TTM and his former band Rooster, it appears Potashnick’s greater love has always been in studio work, with the band’s statement reading “As long as TTM have been together, Luke has quietly enjoyed a writer/producer career of his own which he now wishes to fully dedicate himself to. We support his decision with love and gratitude for the great times we’ve shared in The Temperance Movement.”

Whilst the timing of the departure is somewhat bizarre, with the band having announced the release date of their next album, White Bear, only weeks earlier, it does not seem to have effected their plans moving forwards. The band’s show at Ullapool Festival on September 26th went ahead as planned, with guitarist Jacob Hildebrand standing in, though it is yet to be confirmed whether this is a permanent replacement.

The band’s full statement regarding Potashnick’s departure can be read below:

“FAREWELL LUKE

Quitting the road after years of touring is not an easy decision to make. Luke has being playing and touring internationally for many years, but he has always preferred the studio to the stage. As long as TTM have been together, Luke has quietly enjoyed a writer/producer career of his own which he now wishes to fully dedicate himself to. We support his decision with love and gratitude for the great times we’ve shared in The Temperance Movement. Meanwhile, the rest of us are hugely excited about the release of White Bear and the year of touring ahead. Joining us on stage left guitar duties in Ullapool this weekend is our friend Jacob Hildebrand. Please make him feel welcome
