To celebrate their incredible 20th anniversary dub pioneers Dreadzone are set to release their 7th studio album.

“Escapades” has been given a 9th September 2013 release and fittingly the group have also announced a series of live dates to promote the album, and to play a selection of their 20 year back catalogue.

“Escapades” features former Clash vocalist/guitarist Mick Jones and also the extremely talented singer-songwriter Lena Cullen. The album was born from a heavy touring schedule when founder members Greg Dread and Leo WIlliams took their drum and bass duties onto the Big Audio Dynamite reunion tour, alongside Jones and Letts. As well as Jones and Letts, original members Leo Cullen and Greg Dread return to play and co-produce (alongside present members MC Spee, Earl 16 and Chris Compton).

The album is the first since the 2011 greatest hits compilation and for ardent fans it certainly wont disappoint. The familiar dub sound that made the band such a hit back in 1996 with “Little Britain” is still there. However, what it does offer is an open door to a new generation of listeners. The excellent “Too Late” (which features Mick Jones) is certainly the stand out track on the album, containing a gorgeous guitar riff and thumping drums (and a very clever sample from “Is Vic There” by 80‘s new wave band Department S). The other stand-out track is the quite beautiful “Places”. It has a more relaxed feel and it’s impossible not to be drawn into it’s gorgeous summer hypnotic beat.

All the tracks are a fitting contribution to the already extensive back catalogue and will not be out of place on the up-coming tour. A full album review will follow in the next couple of weeks. In the meantime…
