Granite Chief shares with us his new single “Hear Me Out” as a teaser for his debut EP, Welcome Back. “Hear Me Out” is an introspective and melancholic electronica cutting deep into seething frustration we’ve all experienced within a relationship. “Hear Me Out” introduces us to Granite Chief’s thoughtfully curated blend of organic tones and rich synth pads that are augmented by deft guitar lines. Behind the richly layered production there’s an intimate, artfully-written, song that one could imagine being just as poignant if performed solo and acoustic.
Granite Chief is the (metaphorical) musical lovechild of Grant Benziger and producer Athrill. The two merged their love of folk, rock n roll, and electronica to create the genius sound which makes Granite Chief so remarkable. Despite the initial sessions producing a cache of promising material, the project found itself placed on hold for two years while Grant toured internationally as the guitarist/banjo player for Interscope/Shady Records artist Yelawolf. 2019 became the year when Benziger refocused, refined and nursed Granite Chief back to life.
New sessions were booked, and new songs were carved, documenting the turbulent years since the inception of Granite Chief. It tackled Grant’s darker personal journey in which he looked at his destructive relationship with drugs and alcohol. He explains “upon stepping down it was time for a big life change and this record came to fruition as I dealt with the darker side of life and crawled out slowly toward the light.”
Welcome Back is a painfully honest and unflinchingly self-aware assemblage of songs. The album travels through the hardships of addiction, healing, grueling relationships, lovesickness, and much more.
