Following last week’s new album announcement, Father John Misty has shared a third song from his upcoming third album, ‘Pure Comedy’.  The newly released ‘Ballad Of The Dying Man’, much like the album’s title track, strikes a balance between poignancy and humour, with hilarious lines like “eventually the dying man takes his final breath, but first checks his news feed to see what he’s about to miss” delivering a smart critique on social media obsessed culture without ever becoming self serious.

Yesterday Tillman shared the affecting video for ‘Two Wildly Different Perspectives’, one of the only songs he’s written under the Father John Misty name not to have an ounce of humour or satire to it.  The song tackled big topics and gave them a sense of gravitas, ‘Ballad Of The Dying Man’, though certainly not as serious, does likewise give the sense that on ‘Pure Comedy’ Tillman is tacking the big issues.

Josh Tillman wrote most of ‘Pure Comedy’ throughout 2015 and recorded all the album’s basic tracking and vocals at LA’s respected United Studios in March ’16.  The resultant album is one that, judging by the songs released so far, looks to be heavy on Tillman’s signature acerbic wit but perhaps a little melancholic and sober than previous efforts.

‘Pure Comedy’ will hit stores 7th April and will be released in the UK and EU via Bella Union.
