When you’ve waited three years for news of an upcoming album there is nothing that can top the anticipation and excitement of the first released single. Troye Sivan’s ‘My My My!’ is the lead single off of his upcoming album, which has yet to be given a release date or title. Sivan is the kind of artist who moves quietly but deliberately, frustrating and exhilarating his fans all at once. Despite having been kept in the dark for so long, it would appear that this first glimpse has been well worth the wait.

The throbbing beat at the beginning of the first verse leads perfectly into an almost anthemic chorus that grabs hold of the listener and keeps them engaged until the very end. ‘My My My!’ is an instant favourite among fans of Sivan’s first album ‘Blue Neighbourhood’, which was released in 2015. The easy lyrics and pulsing beat are quick to captivate listeners and leave them wondering what comes next.

As if a solid single wasn’t enough of a treat, fans were also gifted with a video for ‘My My My!’. Directed by Grant Singer, who has worked on videos for the likes of Lorde and The Weeknd, audiences are exposed to the captivating vision of an artist who lives and believes in his music. The video takes place in an industrial setting, which at first glance may seem out of place, but that Singer somehow works into the mood of the song and the desires being voiced by the artist. Troye is the main subject of the video, setting a mood that is reminiscent of Lorde’s ‘Perfect Places’. It’s a video of passion and desire and the freedom of letting go and enjoying the person you are with.

After having waited three years for news on upcoming work, fans will not be disappointed by this first glimpse of what’s to come. While ‘My My My!’ still captures youthful exctiement that ran through ‘Blue Neighbourhood’ and gathered a young audience around a rising star, it is undeniable that if there is one thing we can expect to see with this upcoming album, it’s growth in it’s truest form.
