Having created havoc and excitement in equal measures with a string of support and small headline gigs, Leeds/Manchester based Wuzi have finally managed to transfer their live presence and sound onto an official release – ‘Compromised Host’ and does it sound good!
Previous offerings have promised much but lacked the bite of the band’s live performances whereas the current release grabs you straight away and never lets up. Featuring the usual mash up of grungy guitars with a psychedelic undercurrent, Callum’s plaintive visceral snarled vocals, big swooping bass lines and, especially noticeable on this song, kick ass drumming. The best thing the band have released so far and timed to perfection just a week before their largest showcase to date.
Having won through several rounds of knockout competition they should go down a storm on the BBC Introducing stage at Leeds/Reading Festival this weekend. Any band that can hold their own on stage with Strange Bones should fly on a larger stage, with a sound made for big venues and a stage presence too often limited (sometimes dangerously) to the smaller venues they may find their spiritual home on the open air circuit. There are usually many reasons for feeling woozy at an open air festival, make a date with this exciting young band for one more.
Watch their new video and catch them at the Reading Festival at 1150 on Friday or at Leeds on Saturday at 1240.
