Legendary NYC noise/no-wave titans Swans have announced plans for a documentary film covering the band’s 35 years of existence. ‘Where Does A Body End?’ has been six years in the making, with director Marco Porsia having been given unparalleled access both to the band itself and archived footage of the group from throughout its original 15 year tenure.
Although much of the footage has already been shot for the film, a Kickstarter campaign for the documentary has been initiated, to help funding for post production and further interviews. In addition to Downloads, DVDs and Blu Rays being offered, there are some more unique Swans items available, including original art prints and special editions.

Swans have long cast a shadow over the world of experimental music and the cast of interviewees already announced only serves to confirm this, with the likes of Lee Ranaldo, Thurston Moore, Jehnny Beth, Amander Palmer, Daniel Miller and members of Sunn O))) and Nurosis reading like a who’s who of alternative music.
‘Where Does A Body End?’ looks set to be a fascinating insight into the mindset and creative process of an often elusive and enigmatic group. In addition to what will no doubt be insightful interviews from various members of the band both past and present, it looks as though the film will also prove to be a treasure trove for fans and collectors; with images of rare vintage handbills and posters on the Kickstarter page in addition to other pieces of memorabilia, some of which can be bought through the page.
Delivery of the film itself, regardless of which format you choose, isn’t due until March 2018, so the film is still a way off yet; but in the mean time you can visit the Kickstarter page and watch the near seven minute trailer here.
