John Lewis have revealed this year’s Christmas advert and it features a cover of the Oasis song ‘Half the World Away’ by Norweigan singer Aurora.
Aurora, who is 19 years of age, is relatively unknown, having only released one EP called ‘Running With Wolves’ earlier this year. However, her involvement with the advertisement campaign will surely catapult her into the mainstream consciousness. Interest surrounding the John Lewis Christmas adverts has significantly grown over the last few years, with contemporary artists singing stripped back versions of older songs. In 2010 Ellie Goulding’s cover of ‘Yours’ reached Number One in the UK Charts, while Lily Allen‘s 2013 cover of ‘Somewhere Only We Know’ and Tom Odell‘s ‘Real Love’ last year were also very popular.
This year, the advert focuses on an elderly man living on the moon, and hopes to raise money for the charity Age UK by drawing attention to loneliness among the elderly.
