Get on your dancing shoes, as Manchester’s best-loved entertainment complex, The Printworks, is gearing up to host the fourth Manchester Soul Festival on Sunday 26th August to raise vital funds for The Christie.
Following three successful years raising over £65,000 for The Christie, The Printworks is hoping to raise a record-breaking target of £35,000 for this year’s event, to take the total raised to a HUGE £100,000! The Manchester Soul Festival will bring all the fun and nostalgia of Northern Soul and Motown alive, and is calling on members of the public to help by lifting the fundraising amount ‘higher and higher’ as there ‘ain’t no target high enough’ for this year’s festival.
As the event fast approaches, the jam-packed line up of incredible home-grown talent and soul DJs has been announced. The full line up will include a performance from Manchester’s very own party band, Stax of Soul, whose singer, Stuart Widdall, once shared a stage with Motown artist Edwin Starr, renowned for his number one hit version of ‘War’.
Other acts include Blank Cheque, who released their EP ‘Times Have Changed’ back in February this year, Soul Temptations, and Mississippi Soul Man, plus KFM radio presenters DJ Dave Starr and Paul Kidd, among many, many more.
The Printworks’ Pump Yard will also play host to the dedicated ‘Frank Byrne’ stage. The Manchester Soul Festival was the brainchild of Frank, who wanted to thank The Christie for taking care of him as he battled with oesophageal cancer, and he worked tirelessly to make it a success until he passed away in 2015.
Fred Booth, centre director of The Printworks, said “Every year we pride ourselves on raising as much money as possible for The Christie, and this year is no different as we are aiming to hit the £100,000 mark! Not only that, but it always promises to be a fantastic family day out, with some talented acts lined up and some great offers from our restaurants and bars. We can’t wait to welcome everyone in on bank holiday Sunday for what promises to be another excellent day.”
Jennifer Kent, Community Fundraising Coordinator at The Christie, said “The money raised over the past three years has helped to support The Cancer Appeal Fund at The Christie. This fund is particularly important as it allows us to allocate the money to the greatest need, wherever it is within the hospital, at any given time. It also provides support to the complementary therapy, wig service and rehabilitation departments that offer vital support for patients as they go through treatment and assist them with their recovery . The effort that goes into making this event a success is fantastic to see and we’re always so grateful.”
Venues within The Printworks will also be offering food and drink deals throughout the day to spread even more joy throughout the scheme. Further details of the event, timings, acts and offers will follow soon.
