Over the past 22 years Coheed & Cambria’s main vocalist and songwriter, Claudio Sanchez, has been able to turn the alternative / post hardcore rock group that formed in Nyack, New York into the powerhouse progressive ensemble that has elevated them to cult status around the world.
What has made Coheed & Cambria so different from other “prog rock” bands over the years? Claudio had a vision to bring his lyrics to life unlike any musician. The Amory Wars, is a series of comic books that follows main protagonists “Cohheed Kilgannon” & “Cambra Kilgannon” against the oppression of Wilhelm Ryan, but the story is not just that simple it is filled with intense chapters of struggle and striving to understand the universe that these two characters were born into.

In 2005 the band made their biggest leap towards combing their vision to combine music with graphic novels with the release of their third studio album Good Apollo, I’m Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness. Although Evilink started publishing the comic series in 2007, this was the definitive album that helped elevate the use of science fiction in their music that the band had been experimenting with on their second studio album In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3.
On January 22, the band released a link to their website where a mysterious video could be found set to the dramatic score that opens up their third album album, “Keeping the Blade”, a piece that sounds straight from a science fiction film and could have easily been written by John Williams for a Star Wars entry.
To celebrate the release of their third studio album, the band has announced their traditional “Neverender Tour” to celebrate a milestone in their musical career. The “Neverender” series is something that fans yearn for because they get to see the storytelling that the band has developed brought to life in it’s complete episodic form. The band has announced a whole string of tour dates, where they will play the album in it’s entirety, stretching all across the United States, starting in April and ending in May
In the spirit of Star Wars, the albums that tell the story of The Amory Wars are traditionally out of order, and each new album fills in part of the story to paint the entire epic. So in order additionally hype up this tour with fans, the band has announced the graphic novel series that shares the same name, which Claudio and his wife, Chandra Echart have just completed.
Fans are definitely excited to see one of the bands most commercially successful albums live, which had notable tracks like “Welcome Home,” “The Suffering,” and “Ten Speed (Of God’s Blood and Burial)”
