Avant-rock funkateers Primus and stoner blues titans Clutch have announced a joint US tour.  Both bands have built up rabid cult fanbases over the last 30 or so years and although the two groups are not perhaps the most obvious of matches, they do have an alternative attitude and total originality in common.

Both bands tour on a fairly regular basis but this series of shows, dubbed “An Evening With…”, will mark the first time the two bands have played together live.  It’s a tantalising match; the twisted, noisy funk rock of Primus may well have more in common with the taut, hypnotic grooves of Clutch than first appears, and there’s no doubt that the two groups will put on quite a show.

Though thorough, the tour doesn’t extend outside the US meaning that European fans will simply have to hope the tour is enough of a success to be extended. Primus will, however, be playing a handful of EU shows in June including a night at London’s Roundhouse.

It’s been a particularly good few years for Clutch, who have enjoyed something of a renaissance since the release of 2013’s critically acclaimed and commercially successful ‘Earth Rocker’ and the 2015 follow-up ‘Psychic Warfare’.  Whilst Primus’ most recent long player, ‘Primus & The Chocolate Factory’, was perhaps not their strongest effort, it certainly served as an interesting detour and the band continue to be well received live.
