Following their recent UK tour, Britpop rockers The Magic Es are back with their new single Wishing Well. The childhood-inspired new track is out now on Spotify and Apple Music via Oh Mercy! Records, and follows April’s slow-burning Nothing In Your Way single.
“The song is told through the eyes of two children growing up” explains frontman Pete Thompson. “When you’re young your wishes are more immediate – I want an ice cream, I want a Barbie doll or whatever it is. Your world is smaller, and your awareness of the outside world is limited to your home, your friends and probably the walk to school. As the song hits the chorus it’s about the realisation that as you get older, what you want and the way the world operates can’t be changed by a simple wish. The protagonist wishes that they could ‘build a wall around us all’ and try and keep the simplicity of the world they had as children.”
Since forming in 2014, The Magic Es have been busy. All lifelong musicians with world tours, top 40 singles and a wealth of musical experience under their belts, the boys came together after a chance meeting at a wedding led to them finding common ground in the simple pleasures of classic records. Fittingly for a band steeped in 60’s pop and classic rock, they’ve adopted a similar work ethic to their musical heroes – releasing a string of singles and a debut album in the last two years and picking up acclaim from XS Noize, GigSlutz, Songwriting Magazine, BBC Radio and many more in the process.
