Armed with a well-blended arsenal of trumpets, accordions and a flair for compelling musical taste, Australian singer/songwriter Niq Reefman is an unbeatable force in international music.
Originally from New South Wales, Australia, Niq specializes in contemporary cabaret, jazz, folk and reggae, safely avoiding a “stereotype” or singular “label.” Some of his work can be comedic and easy to relate to, but he doesn’t want to be tied down to a specific “type” of music, seeing this is as a creativity-breaking commitment.
Releasing ‘A Selection of Musical Tales’ in April 2017, Niq has showcased his versatility by lending his impeccable vocals to a list of uniquely-titled tracks, ranging from home Australian ballads to mystical works about the ocean, a favourite pastime and a symbolic musical instrument.
As if the song takes place right in the middle of the rain forest, Niq provides a steady, rhythmic beat on the drum in ‘Witchdoctor.’ A rather enchanting track, if you will: crickets in the background, a barely audible thunder-like noise becoming progressively louder with each passing second, and Niq greeting the listener by throwing his voice. It gives the illusion of a duet between two different vocal registers, each performed by the same artist.
‘In Australia’ is a childhood recollection of pleasant memories leading up to Niq Reefman’s success in the music industry. It’s a rather calm tune: the master recording relies on long strokes of the piano and soft vocals.
“I’ve Got My Mojo Back” is a fabulous track, making use of all Niq’s remarkable talents. It tells of Niq realizing who he is an artist and a performer, and how this has set him in an elated mood.
Through a healthy dose of comedy, a wondrous ability to entertain an audience, topped with a spectacular album that will achieve great longevity, Niq Reefman has placed himself on a high pedestal when it comes to delivering world-class folk and reggae music.
Niq Reefman’s ‘A Selection of Musical Tales’ is out now via Niq Reefman Productions.
