This ‘Pale Honey’ review was written by Ellen Penrose, a GIGsoup contributor.

The Islington, home to the coasting cool cats of North London, welcomed minimalist rock duo Pale Honey (Wednesday 20th March) for the final leg of their self-titled debut album UK tour (out now on Bolero Recordings). The venue, full to the rafters of expectant and curious fans alike, provided an up close and personal experience of the Swedish duo’s latest offering; with the proximity allowing their gritty sound to envelop these wonderful surroundings.

Accompanied by two impressively bearded and talented men-folk, ‘Pale Honey’ took to the cramped stage. The additional musicians allowed for a fuller sound which, when paired with the eloquent songwriting, created an altogether more striking and intense sound. Singer ‘Tulva Lodmark’ offered, as expected, intrinsically beautiful breathy vocals – which complimented mellow bodied tracks such as ‘Fiction’ and ‘Desert’ – as well as an endearing, chilled stage presence, taking the opportunity between songs to ask the audience for London recommendations. How we all love to be needed.

‘Tease’ and debut single ‘Youth’ pushed the duo’s set to an outstanding and quite tantalising level. With drummer ‘Nelly Daltrey’ ferociously attacking her drum-set alongside perfectly pulled back points of lull and anticipation the band’s set had it all.

‘Tease’ they say and tease they do; bigger venues and bigger crowds await this talented duo. ‘Pale Honey’ is out now on Bolero Recordings.

While the UK side of the tour has now finished you can still see the duo at one of the following live venues…
